Disney’s latest Two-Movie collection on a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack brings the hit "Pocahontas" to the Hi-Def format, along with its straight-to-video follow-up, "Pocahontas II: Journey to the New World." While "Pocahontas" did fairly well in its theatrical release, it was criticized for rewriting a bit of history. Not that this is surprising seeing as how every fairy tale Disney gets its hands on becomes something more delightful and candy-coated than the originals.

That said, "Pocahontas" uses its color palette beautifully and this is perfectly captured on Blu-ray where "The Colors of the Wind" has never looked more stunning. The sequel doesn’t have the same frame-count animation style (typical for a home video release) but it uses color and location well as it extends the story of Pocahontas in ways clearly made up by the Disney dream factory. It’s still a charming tale and will please those that are fans of the original.

The Special Features add some nice behind the scenes and history to the discs that makes this purchase worth having in your Disney collection.

  • Drawing Inspiration: The Lost Story of Hiawatha - a full story storyboard re-telling of a lost Disney film that was in development in the 1940’s and was the inspiration for "Pocahontas."
  • Deleted Song: "If I Never Knew You" - deleted from the theatrical release, this tender and touching duet between Captain John Smith and Pocahontas that would have given the story some more emotional depth.
  • The Music of Pocahontas
  • "Little Hiawatha" Cartoon Short
  • Deleted Scenes
  • "Pocahontas" commentary with co-directors Eric Goldberg, Mike Gabriel, and producer James Pentecost.
  • Virtual Vault - includes bonus features from past "Pocahontas" DVD releases.
  • "Pocahontas II" storybook (DVD only)
