On Friday Cake Chicago’s second anniversary of bringing queer arts to the world - or at least Rogers Park - means an extra slice or two this Friday at Red Line Tap behind the Heartland Café at Glenwood and Lunt (7006 N. Get Some Gypsy in your Soul
And while we’re in the ’hood Friday night, do you know about the rebirth of the Morse Theatre? The place has been re-done and while I haven’t laid personal eyes on it yet I do know it is open and offering some very interesting music in a human-sized venue. Prime example: Sanda Weigl will be there on Friday. A Romanian gypsy jazz singer by trade, she also happens to be the niece of Bertolt Brecht’s wife Helene Weigel and the wife of playwright Klaus Pohl. If I did picks to click, this show would be one. With her trio (piano/accordian, base and percussion) $15 Morse Theater, 1328 W. Morse. 312-804-4456. http://www.themorse.com

Hellraiser Here!
Author, director, painter, cartooner, and scary dude Clive Barker will make a one-day (2-5 p.m.) appearance at Packer Schopf Gallery for a one-day exhibition of his work. 1-7 p.m., 943 W. Lake St., You know what Quentin Tarrantino said about Barker: "To call Clive Barker a ’horror novelist’ would be like calling the Beatles a ’garage band’... He is the great imaginer of our time. He knows not only our greatest fears, but also what delights us, what turns us on, and what is truly holy in the world. Haunting, bizarre, beautiful. These are words we can use to describe Clive Barker only until we invent new, more fitting adjectives." Go press that flesh. www.packergallery.com
