’Co-Ed Prison Sluts’ Returns to The Annoyance
To wrap up their 20th Anniversary season, The Annoyance Theater brings an old favorite back to the stage. Clear the way for the immortal smackdown of clown versus drag queen; it’s Co-Ed Prison Sluts!
For a limited engagement, the show that started it all will return to delight audiences. The press release offers a brief history of the play: "Co-Ed Prison Sluts originally opened in April of 1989 as a rental at the Cross Currents Theatre on Belmont and Wilton. The show’s success spurred the company (then known as Metraform) to find a home of their own, giving birth to the Annoyance Theatre, then located at 3153 N. Broadway."
Adds the release, "The show continued to run Fridays and Saturdays at 10:31 PM for the next 11 years as The Annoyance continued to grow and moved to its next space at 3747 N. Clark Street. Playing to packed houses until its closing in June of 2000, the show garnered a loyal audience, some of whom saw the show more than 30 times."
The release continues, "After a six year itinerant period, The Annoyance found and built its current home at 4830 N. Broadway, in Uptown. Since its opening in June of 2006, the company has created more than 20 new original shows, including plays, musicals, sketch and improvisation."
The new staging will take place under the auspices of the play’s original director, Annoyance Theater founder Mick Napier, who, the release reveals, "was originally inspired by the idea of a clown fighting a Drag Queen."
Says the release, "Co-Ed remained true to its inspiration: inane residents of a prison live in fear of the arrival of The Clown...and the big fight never disappoints."
Co-Ed Prison Sluts opens at 10:01 p.m. on July 11, for an already sold-out show. After that, the play will run from July 18-August 29, at 10:01 p.m.
