There is more good news about HIV treatment pills used to prevent infection in people at high risk of getting the AIDS virus.
Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. has announced execution of an agreement to seek South African government approval to initiate a study of Alferon® N, the only FDA approved natural interferon.
The rate of HIV infections diagnosed in the United States each year fell by one-third over the past decade, a government study finds. Experts celebrated it as hopeful news that the AIDS epidemic may be slowing in the U.S.

HIV/AIDS Orgs Call of FDA for Prompt Review of PrEPThirteen prominent HIV/AIDS groups have issued an open letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Gilead Sciences calling for a prompt regulatory review of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention in MSM, and to allow PrEP to be used as a public health intervention without delaying review because of conflicting issues around prevention among heterosexuals.
