EDGARTOWN, Mass. - Everyone’s dream of the ultimate New England holiday tableau can be experienced during Christmas in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard the weekend of Dec. 7-9, 2012. Sponsored by the Edgartown Board of Trade, the holiday celebration transforms the village into a wonderland and year-round residents/islanders welcome all to the Vineyard to partake in the season’s traditions.

The annual celebration of Christmas in Edgartown will begin on Friday afternoon before the evening kicks-off with a Lighting of the Lighthouse Ceremony at the historic Harbor View Hotel from 5-7 p.m. The evening will include complimentary hot chocolate and refreshments, caroling and holiday movie screenings.

Additional Friday evening activities at the hotel include pictures with Santa, complimentary massages, a book signing with author Libby Ellis, writer of "Very Veggie Christmas, Share the Veggie Love," and a precious teddy bear suite, which is produced by local Edgartown real estate agency, Point B Realty. Saturday events at the hotel include an opportunity to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and help her decorate her gingerbread house from 12-2 p.m. in model Captain’s Cottage suite 51, hosted by the Harbor View Hotel’s real estate sales team.

For little ones who have yet to send Santa their letters, they will have their chance to tell him all about their Christmas wishes from 3-5 p.m. as they write their lists while enjoying warm cookies and milk.

Throughout the weekend, Edgartown will offer an abundance of festivities, including open houses, displays, horse and carriage rides, workshops and holiday shopping. For those who wish to end their weekend with the island’s best cuisine, Harbor View Hotel is offering Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at its signature restaurant, Water Street, which includes a raw seafood bar, omelet station, desserts and live jazz by Jeremy Berlin and Eric Johnson.

Overnight room rates are in keeping with the holiday spirit. At Harbor View Hotel, weekend rates begin at $125/night and from Dec. 6-9, guests can also take advantage of the Christmas in Edgartown Suite Special, where rates for the cozy Captain’s Cottage suites are half their normal rate.
